Our Mission: Restoring Harmony to Your Home
At Calm Nature Dog Training, we believe owning a dog should be a source of joy, comfort, and companionship—not daily frustration, stress, or embarrassing public walks.
When a dog struggles with leash pulling, reactivity, jumping on guests, or selective hearing, it isn’t because they are a “bad dog.” It is almost always a breakdown in communication between human expectations and natural canine instincts.
Our mission is simple: we bridge the gap between how humans think and how dogs actually perceive the world. By empowering you with clear, calm leadership techniques, we eliminate unwanted behaviors at the root—creating a peaceful household and a lifelong bond built on mutual trust and respect.

“
When you give a dog clarity, calm leadership, and proper boundaries, you don’t just change their behavior—you remove their anxiety and give them permission to relax.
About Clarissa Hummel

From Exotic Animals to Canine Psychology
Hi, I’m Clarissa! Animals have been my passion for as long as I can remember. Long before launching Calm Nature Dog Training, that drive led me to earn formal degrees in Wildlife Biology and Exotic Animal Training & Management.
Throughout my early career working with exotic species, I learned that true training requires an absolute mastery of body language, patience, and positive communication. You cannot use force or physical intimidation with wild animals—you must understand how their brains naturally function to earn their trust and cooperation.

The Personal Turning Point
My path took a deeply personal turn when my family adopted a rescue Australian Shepherd puppy. Despite my background, she developed severe fear and anxiety. Standard obedience commands and simple treat rewards weren't solving her underlying emotional stress.
Helping her overcome her fears taught me that successful training is about far more than teaching commands—it’s about understanding, communication, and natural pack structure.
I dove into the advanced study of canine psychology, earning my certification through the Dog Trainer Academy and mastering the renowned Dog Calming Code framework. By stepping into the role of a calm, confident leader and setting simple, natural boundaries, my anxious pup completely transformed. She let go of her hyper-vigilance and became the relaxed, happy companion she was meant to be.
My Training Philosophy
That life-changing breakthrough inspired me to dedicate my career to helping families across Greater Columbia thrive with their pets. I believe every dog is an individual, and my goal is to help you build a confident, lasting relationship with your canine companion through compassionate, psychology-based training that works for both of you.

Why Our Philosophy Is Different
Most commercial dog training falls into one of two extremes: heavy-handed correction methods—shock collars, e-collars, yelling—or bribery-based methods that need a handful of treats every time you want your dog to sit. We believe there is a better, more natural way.
No Shock Collars or Force
We never use physical intimidation, pain, or fear-inducing devices. Pain creates suppression, not true behavioral healing.
No Food Bribes
We love rewarding good behavior, but your dog should listen because they respect and trust your guidance—not because you’re holding a treat.
Real-World Environment
We train where life happens—inside your living room, at your front door, and on your neighborhood streets across Greater Columbia.
We Educate You
Dogs spend 99% of their time with you, not a trainer. We teach you to think like a dog so you can maintain results forever.

What Local Dog Owners Say
★ ★ ★ ★ ★
“Excellent service overall. Our experience with Clarissa has been amazing, and the results speak for themselves. My puppy is now using the restroom outside consistently, sleeping in her crate, and responding to her name much more. I’m very impressed and highly recommend.”

“We were really struggling with our Beagle on walks because he pulled so hard. Clarissa came to our home and explained who the alpha was as opposed to who it should be and recommended some tips and tools and we enjoy walking our guy a lot more now. It turns out that the humans need more training than the canines! ♥️”
